LILA RYAN
Artist's Statement, Curriculum Vitae

I instinctively tend to balance hard-edge geometric order to which I am drawn, with rounded, ondulating, dancing forms which I admire; I work with a variety of materials and I like to juxtapose smooth shiny surfaces and rough texture. I am intrigued with pipe and metal/rod and I use clay, wood, and paint in conjunction with each other.

I feel that the shadows, cast by my random - polished stainless steel figurations, mounted well in front of the exterior building wall are part of the sculpture.

I am concerned, naturally, with what is happening in the world around me.
Some of my subjects matters deal with the homeless, with the problems of fashion and art and especially the family. But many of my sculptures are dreamlike figures which could be human or animal, depending on the disposition of the viewer.
