Artist's Statement, Curriculum Vitae


The serenity of the countryside, the vastness of the sky, the richess of the fields, the majesty of the trees blended into a work of form, line, and color. The art work is a combination of painting and freestanding sculpture.

The picture is built much the same as if you stood at the side of the road and surveyed the countryside. The panels show the sky, trees and fields. The carved objects portray the individuality of the images your eyes pick out as you view the scene and store the information in your memory.

The work flows from the wall onto the floor creating the heightened feeling of depth maintaining the physical feeling of looking at the scenery, keeping your eyes moving. The same way you would observe the scene outdoors.

The compositon is, in many ways, the same as my recollections with the loss of detail and fragmented, but, with the essence of peacefulness one finds in North Georgia. The work is not based on drawings made on my road trips, but, with recollections of what I saw while driving through the mountains.
